Emphasis and Accents
Learning which syllable to place the emphasis (or stress) is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Not all words share the same rules, but the irregular words let you know where to place the emphasis, by using an accent. Where ever you see the accent (such as in the word autobús) make sure to place the emphasis on that syllable.
If a word ends in a vowel, n or s, the emphasis (or stress) is on the second to last syllable of the word. Words than end in other letters have the emphasis on the last syllable.
